The Cleaner has won the last two editions of the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and has been included in nominations for this year’s race.

Gaining cult hero status under the care of Longford trainer Mick Burles, The Cleaner returned to racing last spring for a close second in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) before successfully defending his crown in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

Running a close third in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) on September 26th, the Savoire Vivre gelding ran a brave seventh in the Cox Plate but had clearly head enough by the time he beat only one runner home in the Listed Conquering WFA (1400m) on December 9th.

Having failed to make anything of an impact when eleventh in the PB Lawrence Stakes three weeks ago, The Cleaner is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from the run.

Darren Weir is set to launch a typically-smart hand in the feature at Moonee Valley after including four of his stable stars in 2016 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes nominations, including Tosen Stardom and Real Love.

Tosen Stardom announced himself to the Australia racing community through a smart 2015 autumn campaign; heralding a close second in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and fifth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).

Having continued to impress through two subsequent preparations in Japan, the Deep Impact entire’s first-up performance will dictate his path through the 2016 Spring Carnival.

Connections elected not to retire Real Love following a strong autumn and winter campaign, and the mare will launch her 2016 Spring Carnival campaign in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

A strong and consistent performer in her native Perth for trainer Adam Durrant, Real Love ran third in each of the Doriemus Handicap (2000m) and Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) upon debuting for Weir in January.

Returning to winning form in the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m), the Desert King mare ran on for third in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) before again finishing second in the Beck Property Group Plate (2000m).

Taking out the Group 3 JRA Cup (2000m) upon arriving in Brisbane on May 14th, Real Love repeated the dose in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) before ending her campaign fourth in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) on June 11th.

The 2016 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
