The Cleaner Defends Title in 2015 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes

September 7th, 2015

Veteran runner The Cleaner has secured ballot-free entry into the Cox Plate for the second consecutive year after producing a typically brilliant start-to-finish performance to take out the 2015 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley over the weekend.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Noel Callow immediately led The Cleaner forward and settled at the fore of the field; setting a typical break-neck pace and ensure the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes field was strung out along the fence.

Rounding onto the final straight with a clear racing line, the Savoire Vivre gelding immediately responded when asked for an extra effort by Callow; extending to hit the line close to two lengths in the clear of a fast-finishing Bagman; Dibayani boxing on for third.

Trainer Mick Burles was understandably thrilled with the performance mustered by The Cleaner in the 2015 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and revealed he was confident the horse was capable of defeating clear race favourite Contributer at the Valley.

“He’s the best horse in the land or so they reckon,” Burles said after the race.

“I thought the Valley might bring him undone though, so I wasn’t really worried by him. I was more worried about Mourinho and horses that are proven.

“I was really pleased with him today, I knew he had improved three or four lengths from his Caulfield run.

“I think he’s getting bigger and stronger.

“I know everyone goes crook when I say that but I know the horse pretty well.”

Callow delivered a typically attacking performance aboard The Cleaner in the 2015 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and was quick to lay the praise on the class of his mount.

“They made me earn it early but I just got across in my own time,” Callow said after dismounting.

“We he got there he relaxed OK. I walked the track this morning before the first race and this horse you can’t ride like a normal horse – you have to ride him to break hearts and that’s what he did.

“He was pretty brave. I was waiting for the Godolphin horse and I didn’t know what happened but he couldn’t pick him up. I suppose he’s had a silver spoon his whole life and my boy’s had to work for it, so good on The Cleaner.

“I don’t know if he eats pizzas and slops through the mud there at Longford but whatever he does is good. He knows how to work hard.”

Punters who backed The Cleaner to win the 2015 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes with Ladbrokes.com.au have been paid out on generous $5.50 odds for success!
