Seemingly returning to the track in exceptional form this time in, jockey Stephen Baster is confident leading chance Star Rolling will justify favouritism and win this afternoon’s Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
Jumping from the gates well in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) first-up on August 16th, Star Rolling settled in prime position on the heels of the early leaders, finding a clear racing line up reaching the final straight to extend out and maintain a good-enough sprint to beat a fast-finishing Spillway to the line.
Pleased to have retained the ride on the Casino Prince gelding for the 2014 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes, Baster identified The Cleaner as the race’s likely leader and said he would be disappointed not to win following a good week of work.
“It’s a very good race, don’t get me wrong, but I think my bloke is pretty spot on for the race,” Baster told Racing Victoria.
“I galloped him on Tuesday morning at Moonee Valley and he’s going really well.
“The Cleaner will be the leader of the race.
“He might go a bit too hard, might put a few lengths on us at some stage but we wouldn’t want to be too far off him at the turn of the straight.
“I think we’d be disappointed if he didn’t win, we are aiming very high.
“I think he’s going very well the horse and obviously just on his last run I think he’s going to be a good chance.”
Allocated the ideal barrier 4 for the 2014 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes, Star Rolling is offered an excellent chance of tracking likely leader The Cleaner from jump; positioned just two lanes outside the classy Tasmanian.
