A standout performer over the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, Forteller is reportedly in excellent condition leading into this weekend’s featured Group 1 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley after completing a strong piece of work on Tuesday morning.
Kicking off his 2013 spring campaign with a somewhat forgettable eighth in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m), Foreteller quickly reversed his fortunes when charging home to win the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) just two weeks later most notably.
Displaying a keen turn of foot to run on for fourth in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) first-up on August 16th, Justine Hales, stable representative for trainer Chris Waller in Melbourne said the Dansili gelding had progress well from his first run of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, highlighted by his impressive gallop on Tuesday.
“He worked well; he’s pulled up a treat. He loves coming down here for a gallop,” Hales told TVN.
“He goes well here, he’s proven that before.
“He’s lovely to ride in trackwork but he can be a bit funny every now and then when other horses come up behind him.
“So, we decided we would try ear muffs race day and see what happens.”
Contesting an impressive total of ten wins and six minor places from 43 competitive race starts so far, Foreteller has been unlucky not to break through for another race win since taking out the 2014 Makybe Diva Stakes.
Returning in 2014 in typically strong form, Foreteller finished fourth in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) first-up on February 8th, continuing to build in form and classy on his way to third in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) most notably on March 8th.
A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
