This year the $300,000 Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) attracted a final field of 10 hopefuls lead by odds-on favourite, Whobegotyou.

Prepared by former Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh, six-year-old Street Cry gelding Whobegotyou is currently recognised as the best weight-for-age horse in the country and is out on Saturday to become the first three-time consecutive Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes winner since the event became WFA.

Coming off a last-start win in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m), drawn well in barrier five and due to be ridden by four-time Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes winning jockey Damien Oliver, Whobegotyou looks well positioned to win on Saturday.

Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes 2011 betting odds at Luxbet have Whobegotyou as the $1.55 top elect.

If he comes good for the punters come Moonee Valley Race 7 on Saturday, Whoebgotyou will add to the imposing record of favourites in the race with six of the past 12 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes victors having won.

Next in the 2011 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes odds are:

Rekindled Interest ($7.00 Luxbet) – Jim Conlan’s Redoute’s Choice four-year-old is the only other hopeful at single-figure odds, but has work to do from the far outside barrier. Comes off a close fourth in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield, which was an excellent effort for their maiden WFA run. Will have come on from that and is a Group winner at the Valley thanks to their AAMI Vase success here last spring.

Linton ($11 Luxbet) – Lloyd Williams-owned stayer resumed with an eye-catching new season return in the Memsie, finished seventh but had good sectionals and will improve as they step up in distance. Multiple Group 1 placegetter, looked a little under-done last season, should be getting ready to peak.

Red Colossus ($13 Luxbet) – Greg Eurell-trained five-year-old, hasn’t been at Moonee Valley since February last year, but looked in good form when third in the Memsie last start – has claims but others look better for this especially as they are drawn awkwardly.

Spacecraft ($16 Luxbet) – Galileo gelding comes off a fourth to Alcopop in the Penny Edition over at Morphettville, was nice effort from a galloper that hasn’t been in the winners stall for over a year. Won at Moonee Valley over 1500 metres last September from a horror draw, may surprise and return to form to continue their excellent MV record.

Rounding out the field are the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes roughies: Domesky ($31), Magical Pearl ($34), Cabeza ($41) and Unusual Suspect ($41).

Unusual Suspect may be one of the longest-priced Dato hopefuls, but they are also one of the most interesting acceptors.

American import, makes their Australian race debut for new trainer Michael Kent on Saturday, winner of the Group 1 Hollywood Turf Cup (2400m) in California last November. Has been out a long time, but may like the mile first-up and you never know what horses will thrive on the tight Moonee Valley circuit.
