Nominations for the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes 2011 were taken on Monday with dual defending champion Whobegotyou heading the list of 18 early entries for the Moonee Valley feature this Saturday, September 10.
Mark Kavanagh’s in-form Street Cry six-year-old Whobegotyou has held a stranglehold over the weight-for-age $300,000 Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m), winning the last two editions back-to-back.
Whobegotyou is also the 2011 Cox Plate favourite so back them now at Luxbet before Saturday for the hottest price on the weight-for-age champ!
This Saturday the 2011 Cox Plate-bound ‘Whobe’ gets the chance to emulate Shorengo (1968-70) and become just the second horse in Australian racing history to become a successive three-time Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes winner.
Whobegotyou resumed for the season on August 13 with an excellent victory over one-time Caulfield Cup betting favourite Lights Of Heaven in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) and is sure to start near odds-on territory in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes odds at Australia’s No. 1 online bookmaker, Luxbet.
Melbourne Cup winning horseman Kavanagh has Whobegotyou heading towards a third shot at the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 22, the genuine galloper top of the Cox Plate odds at Luxbet paying $7.50.
The Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes is shaping up as a top-class showdown this year, Whobe to face a talented field of rivals.
Victorian Premiership winning trainer Peter Moody, whose mare Whobegotyou defeated last start (Lights Of Heaven) has his reigning Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva and last-start Group 2 Memsie Stakes winner King’s Rose among the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes nominations.
Memsie Stakes’ third and fourth placegetters, Red Colossus and Rekindled Interest, are also set to back up in the Dato on Saturday.
Cranbourne-based horseman Michael Kent has a quartet of his stable runners entered for the Dato Tan Chin Nam, his Group 1 AJC Oaks winning mare Absolutely headlining the contingent.
Other noteworthy 2011 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes nominations include South Australian raider and spring Cups hopeful Alcopop and Robert Hickmott’s gallant grey stayer Linton.
